Caregiving is a complex and demanding undertaking. There are many elements involved in the caregiving role, and we’ve assembled some helpful information on a variety of areas of importance to caregivers.

Council on Aging

Family Caregiver Support Program

Support for family caregivers was formally written into law as part of the Older American’s Act Amendments of 2000. As of the 2006 Reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, the following specific populations of family caregivers are eligible to receive services:
  • Adult family members or other informal caregivers age 18 and older providing care to individuals 60 years of age and older, or care to individuals of any age with a form of dementia.
  • Grandparents and other relatives (not parents) 55 years of age and older providing care to children under the age of 18; or care to adults with with disabilities age 18-59.
