Take Time for Holiday Tips

I wanted to share these 5 holiday tips from the National Institute on Aging that I thought were helpful and meaningful. I hope everyone has a great holiday!

1. Help the person with Alzheimer’s maintain their routines as much as possible, and be sure to take time to rest.

2. Involve the person you are caring for in holiday preparations and activities as they are able. Even though they may not be able to participate as much as they once did, they can still enjoy taking part in holiday traditions.

3. Show the person with Alzheimer’s pictures of visitors and talk about what to expect. You may also want to talk with visitors about what they can expect, especially if they haven’t seen the person in a while and may not be prepared for personality changes.

4. Be safe. Avoid clutter in the hallways and do not leave candles unattended.

5. Take time to do the holiday activities you enjoy. If the person you are caring for cannot go to an event that you want to attend, ask family members to stay with them so you can go
