Don't Wait ... Communicate!

One of the best things we can do for our loved ones is to be open with their healthcare practitioners. After all, you are the one caring for them and you see any changes with them first. Even a small change can indicate a big problem so reporting this is important.

If you are unable to speak with your loved ones doctors due to them protesting perhaps consider writing an email or calling the office at a later time. The doctor may not be able to give out information if they don’t have permission, but they can certainly listen to your concerns.

As a caregiver, you are a great asset to have in the exam room. Some of the things you can discuss with your loved one’s doctor include:

- Your loved one’s diet, medications and lifestyle
- Significant changes in appetite
- Changes in weight
- Chest pains
- Hospitalizations since last visit
- Changes in sleeping patterns
- Changes in cognitive ability, memory
- Skin changes
- Exercise regimen
- Accidents, falls and injuries
- Memory issues
- Changes in hearing or vision
