August is National Immunization Awareness Month

National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life.

As a caregiver, you have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases [like whooping cough and pneumonia] through on-time vaccination.

During NIAM, BayPath encourages you to talk to your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional -- regardless of your age -- to ensure you and your loved ones are up to date on recommended vaccines.

You may not realize that you need vaccines throughout your life. Adults need to keep their vaccinations up to date because immunity from childhood vaccines can wear off over time. You are also at risk for different diseases as an adult. Vaccination is one of the most convenient and safest preventive care measures available.

Most know we need a Influenza (flu) vaccine every year, but you may not know that you may need other vaccines based on your age, health conditions, job, lifestyle, or travel habits.  The CDC's  website  provides The Adult Vaccine Assessment Tool, a simple quiz that will help provide guidance on some of the vaccines you should ask your doctor about.
