Tips for taking care of yourself and learn how to make yourself a priority!

The NIH reports that nearly 15 million Americans provide unpaid care to an older adult. who provide substantial care are more likely to have physical and emotional health problems.

In a recent report, the CDC found that 19.2% of informal, unpaid reported being in fair or poor health, highlighting the need for more attention to be given to the health of caregivers.

When a caregiver is in poor health, it can lead to more hospitalizations and earlier placement in a long-term facility for the person receiving care.

Take care of yourself. It is one of the most important things you can do as a caregiver.

Caregiving is not easy for anyone—not for the caregiver and not for the care recipient. Everyone needs to make sacrifices and adjustments, and change is not always effortless or smooth. The NIH - National Institiute on Aging provides Frequently Asked Questions About Caregiving. They are a collection of what all people thrust into a family caregiving role ask. So the topics are very relevant and informative. Check them out! You may find comfort in knowing many other people have first-hand knowledge to share with you as you start this journey. No one is an island - we all need help.
