West River Hospice offering support programs for bereavement in MetroWest this fall
By Douglas Flynn / September 27, 2017

Navigating through the waves of grief after the loss of a loved one can be difficult with its many undercurrents and difficult terrain. A six- or eight-week adult support group is often helpful as you maneuver into this uncharted territory. The West River Hospice Bereavement Program offers support groups that are facilitated by professional staff who understand that some people participate by talking and others by listening.

West River's grief support programs are open to any West River family member as well as any member of the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. There is no charge to attend a support group, but a donation in the memory of a loved one can be given to the West River Foundation, a charitable organization by calling 781-707-9578.

Meeting topics include: Normalcy of grief and the multitude of reactions; memories; coping and adjusting to new roles; taking care of yourself; rituals and spiritual traditions; and finding hope.

Upcoming groups in the MetroWest area include:

- Narrative Medicine: Healing through Writing (Callahan Center, Framingham, MA; 2-3:45 p.m., beginning on Oct. 25)
- Finding the Gift of Holidays (Southborough Senior Center, Southborough, MA; 1-2:30 p.m., beginning on Nov. 6)
- The Art of Ritual (Needham Council on Aging, Needham, MA; 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 2)
- The Art of Ritual (Callahan Center, Framingham, MA; 2-3:30 p.m. on Nov. 7)

Registration is required to join any of the support groups. To register or to get more information, call 781-707-9578.
