Sudbury Senior Center offering resources to help hoarders
By Douglas Flynn / March 28, 2017

The Sudbury Senior Center is offering several resources to help people struggling with hoarding or whose loved ones are dealing with hoarding issues.

On Friday, March 31, the Senior Center will host "Full House: A Hoarder's Journey" with Lorraine Gilmore at 1 p.m.

Most of us have a lot of stuff, maybe too much stuff. Some of us hang on to things that others put on the curb or leave at the dump. Our closets are full, flat surfaces are a magnet for all kinds of items, and there are stakcs of newspapers and magazines in every corner. It is a struggle for us to find things amid the chaos in our homes.

Learn how Gilmore, who has the disorder known as compulsive hoarding, learned to downsize in a presentation sponsored by the Marlborough Community Development Corporation. During this one-hour session, a video will be presented that narrates her struggles and strategies that helped her, followed by a discussion. The event is free and all are welcome at the Senior Center, located at 40 Fairbank Road in Sudbury.

One week later, the Sudbury Senior Center will welcome new members to its hoarding support group.

Do you avoid having people over because of the cluttered state of your home? Do you have trouble getting rid of your stuff? Do you buy more than you actually need?

Research shows that working through the book, Buried in Treasures, in a structured group is one of the most effective ways of addressing hoarding behaviors.

This is a FREE support group for adults of all ages and from any town. New members are welcomed on April 7, with the group meeting weekly on Friday afternoons at 1 p.m.

For more information, call Sudbury Senior Center Director Debra Galloway at 978-443-3055 or gallowayd@sudbury.ma.us, or contact ClearPath at 508-658-0880 or clearpath@strongcommunity.org. Additional groups take place in other MetroWest locations, visit www.strongcommunity.org for details. ClearPath is a program of the Marlborough Community Development Corporation.
