New hoarding support group starting in Hudson in January
By Douglas Flynn / December 4, 2015

Hoarding is an issue affecting many people, especially elders.

The ClearPath Hoarding Task force notes that persons with hoarding disorder are estimated to comprise 3-5% of the general population. Hoarding tendencies are often not expressed until a traumatic event occurs, such as the loss of a spouse, or an illness. Hoarding disorder causes the sufferer to become ashamed and isolated, as hoarders often do not allow others, including their families, to enter their homes or other spaces that are cluttered.

- Do you avoid having people over because of the cluttered state of your home?

- Do you have trouble getting rid of your stuff?

- Do you buy more than you actually need?

Research shows that working through the book , "Buried in Treasures," in a structured group is one of the most effective ways of addressing hoarding behaviors.

This is a FREE support group for adults of all ages and from any town. It will meet twice a month from January through June of 2016 on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. at the Hudson Senior Center (29 Church Street, Hudson, MA).

For more information, call the Hudson Senior Center at 978-568-9638 or email ClearPathMA@gmail.com.

ClearPath is a program of the Marlborough Community Development Corporation. ClearPath is a hoarding task force which provides education, peer support, and sorting and discarding services in the greater Marlborough area. A task force representing about fifteen agencies and practitioners develop and deliver programming for those with hoarding disorder, their families, and the public.
