Caregiving MetroWest adds new content on dementia-friendly communities as program brings approach to area towns
By Douglas Flynn / February 12, 2016

Dementia-friendly communities are coming to MetroWest.

BayPath Elder Services, Inc., with funding in part from the MetroWest Health Foundation and working in conjunction with stakeholders from all sectors of the community, has begun the process of creating dementia-friendly communities in MetroWest through the formation of the Come 2B Dementia Friendly program.

Come2B Dementia Friendly is a community-based initiative consisting of agencies, businesses and committed individuals working together to create dementia-friendly communities, starting in Marlborough, Hudson and Northborough.

Caregiving MetroWest, which is also a BayPath program funded in part by the MetroWest Health Foundation, is helping to raise awareness for this project. We have just launch a new page on CaregivingMetroWest.org on dementia-friendly communities. Check it out to get information about what a dementia-friendly community is, how a community can become dementia friendly and how BayPath is helping to create dementia-friendly communities here in MetroWest.

You can also get more information about the program from Arthur Bergeron, an elder law attorney with Mirick O'Connell Attorneys at Law who has penned a guest column [pdf] for the MetroWest Daily News. Bergeron has been a driving force in the effort to create dementia-friendly communities in MetroWest, and in the column he details why he is so committed to this project and the vision he has for a dementia-friendly MetroWest.
