A 21st Century gift for a 20th Century loved one
By DebraMcDonagh / December 24, 2019

A photo of my Dad listening to his favorite radio program, c. 1938.

20th Century: The Golden Age of Radio

The old-time radio era was a time when radio programming in the United States was the dominant electronic home entertainment medium. It began in the early 1920s, lasting through the 1950s.

People regularly tuned-in to their favorite radio programs, and families gathered to listen to the home radio in the evening.

21st Century: Audiobooks & Podcasts

A lot of seniors have lost the ability to read traditional paper books or watch television due to declining vision, such as cataracts.

The concept of Audiobooks is not foreign to folks who were born in the '30s, '40s or even the early '50s as they grew up with old-time radio. www.dailycaring.com posted about The National Library Service (NLS), which sends audiobooks and braille books straight to the home for FREE! The free service works through local libraries that mail the NLS talking or braille books and magazines.

They also provide easy-to-use playback equipment designed for people with low/no vision, also at no cost. Check out the dailycaring post for more details.
