An excellent starting point for any caregiver is a call to your local ASAP`s information and referral department to learn about all the services and resources available in your area. The ASAP information and referral department can provide valuable guidance and assistance throughout your caregiving journey. Your town’s Council on Aging is another essential tool to help you understand and access available resources for your loved one.

Aging Services Access Points, commonly referred to as ASAPs, are one-stop entry points for all of the services and benefits available to seniors in Massachusetts. ASAPs manage the Massachusetts Home Care Program, Meals on Wheels, Money Management Program and Caregiver Support Program, as well as provide information and referrals for senior services such as home care, housing options, public benefits, legal assistance, hospice care, the ombudsman program, health insurance, senior companions and adult day care. BayPath also serves as a federal Area Agency on Aging (AAA), receiving and disbursing federal funding under the Older Americans Act.

Councils on Aging (COAs) are local volunteer organizations that offer information and direct services to seniors, their caregivers and other people with aging issues. COAs are part of the local government, and work with other senior agencies and city/town departments to provide social, recreational, health, safety and educational programs for seniors in their communities. Most COAs operate Senior Centers for area residents age 60 or older. COAs are also home to each town’s SHINE Program representatives, who provide free, confidential and unbiased health insurance information, assistance and counseling.

Neighbor Brigade is a non-profit organization that establishes and mobilizes community-based networks of volunteers to provide immediate and free assistance to neighbors experiencing sudden crises such as cancer treatment, illness, accident or other tragedy. Neighbor Brigade volunteers provide critical support services such as home-delivered meals, transportation to and from medical appointments and home maintenance help.
The Elder Nutrition Program at BayPath delivers nutritious meals to seniors who are unable to leave their homes due to illness, disability or frailty. The purpose of the program is to encourage better health, reduce isolation and promote independence.

These programs provide opportunities for socialization and companionship, while enjoying a well-balanced “home cooked” meal. BayPath requests a voluntary contribution of $3.00 per meal. No one will be refused a meal due to the inability to contribute. Please call the location and let them know at least 24 hours in advance.

Natick COA VolunteersThe Natick Community-Senior Center transportation volunteers use their own vehicles for rides that are coordinated through the Council on Aging office at the Natick Community-Senior Center. Rides and escort services are provided for medical appointments, shopping, hair appointments, nursing home visits, visits to the Senior Center, banking and other needs and occasional religious services.
