More and more grandparents are raising their grandchildren, which creates its own set of challenges, concerns and issues. There is support available to help you through your caregiving journey, including a support group from the Wayside Youth and Family Support Network for grandparents support group at the Framingham Family Resource Center.

The Sharon Adult Center/Council on Aging is running a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group. Join other grandparents on the third Thursday of each month from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Sharon Adult Center.

The Morning Connection, a six-week telephone support group for grandparents and kinship (non-parent) caregivers who are raising their grandchild or relative child, will take place on Thursdays at 10:30 to 11:30 on March 2 through April 6. This is a program of Elder Services of Merrimack Valley, Inc., but is open to all grandparents and kinship caregivers.

Grandparents raising grandchildren can get information, resources and support from Family Caregiver Support Programs and the state's Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Among the many resources listed at the Commission's website is some timely information about eligibility for free school meals as the summer winds down and the start of the school year approaches.

The Callahan Center in Framingham is offering a new evening support group for caregivers that will meet from 6-7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning on May 3.
