There was some good news for the nation’s family caregivers this week, as the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act was signed into law. This new law directs the Department of Health and Human Services to create an advisory council charged with making recommendations on the strategy to support family caregivers by addressing financial and workplace issues, respite care and other ways to support caregivers.

One of most challenging aspects of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia can be the struggles that often accompany the end of the day in a phenomenon called “sundowning.” While there is no “cure” or foolproof way to prevent sundowning, there are things caregivers can do to manage the behavior and mitigate its effects.

COME 2 B Dementia Friendly Marlborough, the Marlborough Council on Aging and Welly's Restaurant are bringing a new memory cafe to Marlborough in January. The Time Out Cafe will meet on the third Sunday of every other month and offers caregivers and their loved ones with dementia an opportunity to socialize in a supportive environment.
